This twice Oscar-nominated actor is a great talent. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in the role of Solomon Vandy in the film, Blood Diamond (2006). Watch this and you’ll agree his talent is undeniable. In the role, he displays emotion very naturally. Never contrived. His intensity is executed very capably.
But Blood Diamond is not the only film he’s been nominated for. In 2004 he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his work in the film, In America (2002). In that film, he played an AIDS patient and he was good in the movie. In 1998, he was nominated for a Golden Globe award for Best Performance By An Actor In A Motion Picture - Drama, for his role in Amistad (1997).
Even though he has not yet won, these are well-deserved accolades bestowed upon Hounsou. I’m glad he’s getting recognition. Worth mentioning, he’s been nominated for lots of awards lots of times; including nominations for SAG Awards, Image Awards and others.
I think he’ll be around for a while. I sure hope so. I like him.
