What is it with some black comedic films?
What is so funny about taking a dump or experiencing diarrhea or flatulence?
This crap is inserted into films for no reason whatsoever, except to elicit laughter.
And it may have been funny the first or second time; but not the 9 millionth time!
I continue to be outraged by this pre-school, asinine stupidity!
Why are we so fixated on this?
Why?
This is something that kids do; making fun of flatulence, crappin’ and burping.
This ish ain’t funny. It’s stupid.
For Godssakes.
YOU EMBARRASS US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
Some films come to mind:
Friday
Are We There Yet?
The Nutty Professor
Big Momma’s House I
YOU EXPECT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY AS FILMMAKERS!??
PLEASE.

another great topic. let us not forget the "hit in the crotch" joke that the wayans used about 348917309413746871236413047 times in lil man. smh

I equate these things with the use of the "N" word in comedy. If one has to use these simple minded tactics to get laughs out of an audience, your stuff ain't all that funny to begin with.

@ Aulelia
Funny you should ask. When I started this blog, I decided that as part of the content, I would not include history. One of the reasons for this is that I have things to say about now and our history on screen is well documented in books and maybe even other blogs.
It's funny you should ask because last weekend I said to myself, I may want to, from time to time, add "history" to the blog, blah blah blah.
I, like you, am interested in the Hollywood black stars of yesterday but this is the deal. Running this blog is an enormous effort in time. Besides these posts, there is much that goes on behind the scenes. Posting daily is a lot of work. I work a day job. I'm finding I have little time to do other things -- one of those being read. I'm not even reading for my own pleasure, and I certainly don't have time to read books for the blog.
Because I am not knowledgeable about the history black cinema, I have things to learn. Oh, I know bits and pieces but in order to post intelligently I would have to do reading -- reading I absolutely don't have the time for at this moment.
With that said, Ima still make an attempt at some point to introduce pieces of history onto the blog. Im going to figure something out.
I have to figure ways to better organize my time and my efforts as it relates to the blog. LOL
So, that's it, really. No time.

This is an amazing topic! I mean you really speak the truth about this. I think these kind of jokes in black films just stereotype us as being dirty and unclean. I find this kind of humour unsettling and abhorrent. The thing is most black people I know make a big issue out of being as clean as possible, dress well and be presentable. Yet this kind of negative kind of humour is so unsettling. Great topic.
