Thanks for posting, when I read this I immediately thought of this blog. I completely agree with the article there needs to be more complexity and variety in Black Films.

I recently watched A British film called "Me Without You" starring Michelle Williams ( Heath Ledger/Dawsons Creek) and Anna Friel and I loved it. It's a coming of age story about the complexity of friendship. Although it is not perfect, I was just wondering, why are there no Black films like this ( granted, I haven't seen "Our Song" yet, starring Kerry Washington)? It just made me sad.

Great article. I too long for movies with black casts that cover a variety of issues...friendship, love, divorce, family issues, etc.

"They"(Hollywood)say they don't make these types of films with black casts because "we" don't support then. Which to some degree is true.

But it puzzles me how certain movies can be made with "white" casts like "Made of Honor", bomb at the box office, but continue to be made?

What a coincidence--I posted this on my blog today as well. Wesley Morris is the answer; I've loved his writing style for years. He speaks the truth on this, for sure.

i read this the other day and, have to say i agree with it. we seem to get some shots on television. even in production and writing. but movies are...i don't know.
OFF TOPIC: did any one hear about rihanna starring in a movie called "Mama Black Widow", i think singer/actresses are a big part of the problem.

Nikki

Yes, Kerry Washington is in it too. I saw it on IMDB that sucks about Rihanna.

Yes; lots of this stuff makes me sad, too. :(

Yeah; I saw something about Rihanna and being in a movie; I didn't even read it.
