What is theblackactor.com?
theblackactor.com is a black film blog. Here, I examine the performances, choices, responsibilities, images and struggles of today's black motion picture actor. These topics are the principal focus of this blog.
What does the author think about the current state of blacks in film?
The more you read the blog, the more you’ll know; but for one or two things I believe, take a look below…
Due in large part to blind race loyalty, we accept mediocre film entertainment. Though history has crafted this response, today we live in a new day… a very new day.
Oftentimes, we support black films regardless of how preposterous the premise, or how incomplete the actors. We cheer. We cheer for our black moviemakers and actors for they place on the silver screen the images that reflect our lives. Often, the black moviegoing audience hoots and hollers when one of “our” movies is due for release. This supportive uproar is seldom merited, yet continues to remain firmly in place pending the release of a film with a largely black cast, or a film with a black director attached to it.
Too often this praise is undeserved and in a broader sense, harmful. This misplaced and undue acclaim hurts not only the arts, but our youth and black film and filmmakers. Unwarranted adulation such as this does not serve us in any meaningful way.
