When I read The Invisible Woman’s Top 10 Worst Black Films of 2007 , it got me to thinking. Since film is a collaborative effort, there may be been several people responsible for these “worst films.” I was wondering who wrote them. When a film is successful, the director usually (or the actors) get all the credit and when it’s a disaster, often the actor takes the blame. But there are others involved. Here, we highlight the screenwriters of some of IW’s Top 10 Worst Black Films of 2007.

Kasi Lemmons... Director

Kasi Lemmons is also an actress and a screenwriter.

    

Although Kasi Lemmons has been a working actress for almost three decades, I believe she’s better known for her artistic talent as a director. I know her best from her role as Agent-in-Training/Special Agent Ardelia Mapp, alongside Jodie Foster in Silence of the Lambs (1991).

    

Kasi Lemmons continues to fulfill her promise as a director. Her first full-length feature, Eve’s Bayou (1997) (which she also wrote) is one of my all-time favorite movies. I am unfamiliar with the second film she directed, Dr. Hugo, a short film. I hated the pic, The Caveman’s Valentine (2001) her third effort. But I really enjoyed her fourth film, Talk to Me*, released in July, 2007.

    

I hope to see her at the helm of more projects in the future. I’m expecting great things from her. I am glad she is getting these opportunities. This is a sister in the business who is making moves.

 

I like her and I respect her creative and artistic vision.  And I’m proud to say SHE DOESN’T MAKE STUPID MOVIES.

    

The next film she directs (which she also wrote) is The Jailhouse Lawyer, currently in production, set to be released in 2008. I’m looking forward to this.

 

 

 

    

    

    

*Grrrrrrrr. :-( This movie opened on only 36 screens and only made $4.5 million dollars! WTF? What’s up with that?!  :-(
